BAYANI
The Tagalog word for hero, which is "bayani", is derived from another Tagalog word "bayanihan." "Bayanihan" literally means "the community helping one another." So in some sense, being a "bayani" has something to do with helping.
Now, the root word of "bayanihan" is "bayan" which means nation. Therefore, to be a "bayani", one must deny selfishness and do something that can help build his nation.
Do you want to be a "bayani"? Well, you can be one with the simple things that you can do. Like picking up a litter and putting it on its proper place, a little action that can prevent flood and thus, save many lives.
"Let nothing be done through strife or vainglory; but in lowliness of mind let each esteem other better than themselves. Look not every man on his own things, but every man also on the things of others." - Philippians 2:3-4, KJV
