With the twinkle of first sight (Rubaiyat sonnet)

With the twinkle of first sight in their eye
a flaming star soared across the sky
as it shined with its own new light
and in only a wink it did pass by.

What a strange kind of thing it was to some,
as they thought that a time of joy had come
as the star had brought a kind of good news,
and led wise men away from home.

In every birth of a child on this earth
there is a kind of hope, a kind of worth,
the promise of passing on love and life
of a kind of warmth far beyond the hearth;

that great miracle of a small girl or a boy,
who will at a time either build or destroy.

When feelings unfold like a pocket knife (cavatina)

When feelings unfold like a pocket knife,
they can be sharp
and cut deeply without a second thought,
the soul can warp
at mere words that are said indifferent,
or like a harp
the sounds of love and speech can be quite true,
can bring happiness in all that they do.

BLOOD DRAPED

It was coming up, the politics
like dirty sex
in tall Parthenium grass.

The panther was hiding on a steppingstone
watching the hot, field hockey
played with skulls of peers.

Mauled, the peach skin was
entertaining sunlight in
the metaphoric village.

Prisoners of false ceilings,
we sing the anthem with
the crowd of wolves.

A Blessing for a Friend

I said a Prayer for you today.......
It means saying that it is O.K. for you to twist me like a pretzel
I feel the need to DRIVE very fast and go 300 miles
I thought you and I would reconcile our differences
The only difference is me not caring anymore......
Love is as good as you make it and as bad as you ignore it
I feel better knowing that you are happy
I KNOW what happiness feels like
Please don't forgive yourself for all the things that you have done
It would be a far reaching gesture
Be wonderful, love yourself as I do
I can still hear you whisper my name
Like tickeling my ears with a feather
Have a wonderful life an move on......

Blessings,
Kahlia

Poem: Human Veil

Oh the irony of this mortal situation,
being encased in this temporary flesh.
For I’m momentarily bound to this earth,
although I anticipate my heavenly journey.
At the moment of Christ’s crucifixion,
the temple curtain was torn in two by God,
ripping it from the top to its bottom,
which signified His personal invitation…
for unhindered, one-on-one interaction.
And yet I yearn to feel His presence,
knowing that my sin keeps us separated.
Struggling seems futile, since He…
promised to never forsake His Children
because of a inherently flawed condition.
Give me daily strength to take up my cross,
as I continue tear away my heart’s covering
of this unwanted and disconnecting… human veil.

Inside the Jewish synagogue, the curtain separated the “inner court” from the “holy of holies”, a place where the only the high priest could enter.

Poem: Called to Worship (VII)

It’s the dawning of a new day
and my heart can’t help but sing;
Your grace and tender mercies flow
from the eternal realm of my King.

Shine the brightness of Your Light,
deep into the blackness of my soul;
direct my steps away from sin’s abyss
with Your standard of self-control.

Illuminate my spirit with the radiance
of Truth, that’s found within Your Word.
Continue to educate and edify me daily
with messages that were previously unheard.

Although I presently reside on Earth,
Your Kingdom holds my first citizenship.
Train me to be Your ambassador by showing
how I am permanently… called to worship!

At Margate Beach (cavatina)

One after the other or in some pairs
the seagulls fly,
while a green, blue or purple hued calm sea
does catch the eye;
on the beach a myriad of girls tan,
men do get dry
or return to the surging surf to have fun
and children enjoy the hot summer sun.

With a view on Clifton beach (cavatina)

Rubens would have been quite happy to paint
with the white beach,
the view through the window with topless girls,
just out of reach
with their fuller figures making great curves,
and almost each
very voluptuous and here and there
a perfect slim woman without a care.

A CENTRIOLUM

Never in those sizzling conflicts
displaying the pink eyes
you were able to reach me.
Was it metagenesis,
forgetting your selfhood?

Fragments of a beast were floating on sea.
Was umblicus of death broken
in the crotch of a mother?
Lay the corn again on my palm
to smoulder in the heat of sun.
Hunger will take revenge now.

Burn, burn my truth, burn!
I was the creator,
and I was destroyer
at the helm of unbuttoning coal.

It was a black, black sky,
where the stars were hesitant to show their
centrioles.

After the sun rises in a black dawn
there will be no shocks.

In God’s Arms

Leaning on God’s everlasting arms, we are safe from all alarms,
Instead of leaning at times we fall, if we don’t heed Christ’s call,
A call to cast all our cares to Him, so, we fall into worry and sin,
Then sin moves some to despair, when they don’t cast off care.

Each and all concerns in this life, must be given to Jesus Christ,
Who guards us from worry and sin, granting us His peace within,
God’s peace deep within our heart, as calmness He does impart,
This, when we rely upon The Lord, a peace from God is assured.

Worry’s simply Satan’s way, to get our hearts and minds to stray,
Away from God’s Word indeed, as new doubt he begins to seed,
Desirous, that in a short time, doubt will hinder all peace of mind,
Filling hearts with much concern, far from the peace that we learn.

For much peace indeed, is wrought, when we heed what is taught,
By the Spirit and Word of God, as Christ leads with staff and rod,
Leading us beside waters still, as we follow God, obeying His will,
As Christ fills us with His peace, even though trials may not cease.

All that happens in this life, is ordained or allowed by Jesus Christ,
So regardless of when or where, indeed our Savior is always there,
Helping us in every trial and test, so that in the end we are blessed,
For from the beginning of all alarms, we are secure within His arms.
