Congratulations on your new pictures: beauty in its purest state, simple but radiant… I am glad you liked the “Lament for Renée Le Glas”. Maybe I owe you an explanation. Unlike “Persephone”, this is no “Galianan” poetry. In the westernmost part of France, in Brittany a Celtic language has been spoken for over fifteen centuries by around 2 million people. “Breton” is since the 1950ies seldom spoken, though it appears, when browsing the web, that lots of people have a good command of it. Of course, all of them are bilingual. I learnt the language long ago, but only recently did I discover that wonderful old poems called “gwerzioù” were gathered by 19th century collectors. “Renée” is one of them. It remembers me of the English/Scottish lament “Barbara Allan” . I have posted another specimen of Breton poetry, ”Wooing dispute”, with no tragic ending (unless you consider marriage as such!) How fascinating! I am going to look at the poem and site you suggested, the amount of knowledge you know is inspiring. I have never even heard of Breton before and I look forward to learning more about it. Thank you for the link :)
