Call Of The Raven
by Angela Lucius
pub. in Darkness Deep Oct 2011
Eeriness drifts with the mist that cloaks the sleeping earth.
Emptiness hangs in the air, like that, of childless birth.
A dreadful silence, deafening, your heartbeat only heard.
Except for sounds of fluttering wings and screeching of the bird.
A lonely Raven, black as death, sits upon a stone.
Bellowing his call of night that wakens sleeping bones.
Shadows rising in the black, gasping for a breath.
Phantoms wake and shivers quake with the chill of death.
A glowing moon creeps from the clouds, sending out a cold caress.
As creatures of the night arise and cast their silhouettes.
Throwing off their chains that bind, escaping crypts and tombs.
They dance upon the breeze, beneath the haunting moon.
On Hallows Eve, the ritual feast, they rise at midnight hour
Searching out the scent of blood, with longings to devour.
Beware to guard your soul this night, when moonlight beckons all.
As shadows rise with hungry eyes, to the sound of the Raven's call.
