Diamond Days

Even be I dead
I will remember thee
Through all yesteryears clouds and rain
Our poetry will ever stay the same

Moments from years
No shame in those tears
You can't ever know
All our love in arrears
Such joy will not pass
When life goes under grass

Fully locked within my mind
Set fair there for all time
Images permeate, sounds possess
Once when you spilt wine upon your dress
Those grass stains from our parkland frolics
The time when we ran past three alcoholics

Once we were drawn in charcoal together
Then washed pale by the autumn weather
Shells and wet sand filled our shoes
Straggling hair, no towels, fingers blue
All of these things and so many more
Just from one day at the south shore

Each must bank their finest times
Keep the best and refute the crimes
Pack tightly all the diamond days
The winter chills and summer haze
All will keep the blues at bay
When at last we slumber night and day

The above was extended from two verses of the original penned circa 1975 with a few subsequent memories to replace those from the 70's.
