I poured you a glass of milk
you drink it like you do
your mouth a cave i want to explore
you say
"not yet. it wouldn't be right
and anyway
i don't love you anymore"
but the truth is i'm holding out
when you die i'll lay on your coffin
my tears will wear away the oak
and i'll still explore you
because i'm that sick in the head
You used to march
in lines of eight
and tried to hold the stars through the smoke
from all the burning bodies
You collapsed underground
dreaming of lips and above
letters marked 'to my love'
rearranged 'to my last'
You were no match for those tanks
I feel a little like a sinking ship
and there are lots of people trying to save me
but there's no point
I've been hit my pirates
ten cannon balls
in one side and out the other
His stories of me
fall to the floorboards
and split them open
I am running my barefeet across them
over and over
until I'm splintered
with the past
My hands shake as I hope
to drown in this
mug of tea
I press it to my lips
hoping it will burn them away
I am sitting in this fog
and I can't get out
I was a young girl living in an apricot. The walls collapsed around my bed. Worms, I think. Bunches of rotting fruit fell like missiles. I escaped to an apple. I made a bunker in the center and I slept with the seeds. Now the walls have collapsed again. And I realize .. there is no fruit that I can be happy in.
Farewell fresh fleshed friends.
I will leave the fruit bowl and rot.
