Melissa -- Above The Celestial City

Melissa
– Above The Celestial City

He
went straight to where Melissa was sleeping
She
was deathly pale but that always occurred
When
her astral projection was out of her body
She
had not returned when she was supposed

It
was obvious to him that somehow – trapped

In
the other realm she was restrained by somebody
But
how? She was a white mage – pure and feared

Something incredibly portentous
was happening

The
smell assaulted his nasal passages and he
Realised
that he was no longer alone – it was
A
gargoyle but three steps in front was the keeper

His
face was ravaged and burnt where the power
Of
the glyph stome had worked its magic – it
Had
to hurt intensely – he pointed at Melissa –

the
keeper said but one

word:
“Come” – and

he
knew that there were

no
options – for some reason

it
required the two of them

for
whatever lay in store

he
had to go

He
was pushed through the portal roughly
Followed
instantly by the Gargoyle and the
Keeper
– once there he was flanked on
Both
sides by two more Gargoyles who

Were
there to prevent escape – he had few
Options
– he was led to the city whereupon
He
caught sight of Melissa – prevented he
Was
from any communication – completely

She
was attired in her white mage's robes
Which
normally would have looked beautiful
Since
the fabric was weightless and without

Friction
– they shimmered and one could
Almost
feel the power comtained within
She
was however held in black magic restraint

Flanked
on either sides
They
marched him up the crystal steps
Above
the ceiling of cloud
To
watch the battle-game

Two
magi appeared in the sky above the Celestial City
One
wearing the white robes of the Summoner
One
wearing the black robes of the Black Mage
Evenly
matched
A
fight to the death

He
could do nothing but watch as his guardians
Two
gargoyles of the Styxian Imperial Guard
Stood
close to his side preventing movement
He
could neither move or make good an escape

A
thunder cloud
Dark
- - menacing
Lit
up from within by periodic bolts of purest white Lightning – an
amorphous form continually
Changing
form – increasing in size
A
lethal weapon in the hands of
A
black mage

She
was ready
Instantly
a tear appeared in the sky
An
ear-splitting shriek
The
rift grew wider –
A
summons

A
beast several stories high breached the rift
The
tear immediately sealing
It
was a cross between a minatour
And
a dragon – a Megaloth – capable of casting
Powerful
fire and ice magic

It
hovered before the cloud
Its
powerful wings causing a downdraft that he
Could
feel from the raised
Dais
on which he and his captors stood
He
waited...

Melissa
was to embark upon a battle with a mage
Whose
power was equal to if not eclipsing that
Of
his love – he realised also that should she die
Here
on the battle-field her real body would

Sink
into a vegetative coma from which she could
Never
recover – the battle was designed to try
Out
the powers of each mage and to see just what
Would
occur between a monster and a pure sage

He
was a ball of frustration being helpless to
Assist
her but at the same time he knew her
Power
was phenomenal – he had witnessed it

But
here in this realm it was a different thing
Entirely
– this was not just good versus evil
This
was white against black on their soil

To
be continued...
