Eros

My mother has a hold over me,
A hold I cannot break.
Every jealous plan
I must go along with.

Things will never change.
Something inside me is different.
Something strange.
I saw the woman, Psyche,

A woman so beautiful
My mother is jealous
Of the attention
She received.

I have found myself in her arms.
I no longer wish to obey my mother.
I must marry her.
The oracle hears my plea

And informs her family of me.
I will have her.
I give her my love
(...)

Ballad of the Virga et Ardere

There once was an Elven Warrior,
Sent on a quest to find,
The Virga et Ardere,
To save Fantagaisia.

This warrior traveled over mountains,
And under seas.
He traveled until,
Until he was homesick.

As he stopped to rest,
The Fae Queen appeared,
She gave him the blue,
Blue Virga et Ardere.

As he walked through the forest,
A little puppy followed him,
And offered the orange,
Orange Virga et Ardere.

He came upon a strange creature,
Injured from a fight.
He healed him and received,
(...)

Psyche's Dread

Its almost time.
My sleeves drenched
by my sister’s sobs.
Its almost time to meet
my future husband.
The veil I wear
forces my head down
as if its a burden.

Aphrodite’s vengeance
has hit me, leaving its own
form of magical gaping face wounds.
Her mark chased off my potential
suitors, destroyed my chances with mortal,
human, normal men.
Now I shall climb that hill
the Oracle spoke about.

Its time.
My heart pulsates
As my march
Approaches the hill.
I can hear it in my ears,
(...)

Description Practice

I sit on a brown bean bag chair, watching Tomy play Final Fantasy X. The four walls follows the pattern of blue, yellow, blue, yellow and the television sits in front of a blue wall. There are stickers and pictures on the closet doors. A cat, a snake, the joker, all look down at me in my seat. A mac sits in the corner of the room, a sign flashing. The wooden table also holds characters from a video game.
Tomy's backpack sits on a red chair and Jordan K. Ellis's jacket sits on the blue chair. Beside the TV are a toy chest to the left and a shoe basket on the left. A brown shelf contains toys and trophies as well as winter objects. The puppy's toy- a rottweiler stuffed animal that looks just like the puppy- sits on its side, mourning the lost of its owner. Hanging from the blinds, are a miniature voodoo doll and a green man of some sort.

Tomy switches out the game for a Star Wars one and Jordan plays, sitting on his side. His kneed is up and he sits on his left foot. I am working on a portrait of Jordan's parents' dog, Jewel. Jewel is a beautiful golden retriever, so she's a thrill to work on.

It is warm in the room, but I don't mind. I enjoy watching Jordan as he runs around behind enemy lines without them knowing. Unfortunately he is killed by the turrents. He respawns, but he overheats his weapons several times over.

Ultimately I have one thing to say,

"Happy New Years and thank (...)

The Ride Home and True Home

The Ride Home
If she says one more thing about my “F” I swear I’m going to murder her in her sleep. I’ve only been out of school for a few minutes and Mom is already busting my chops. Doesn’t she know that math is my toughest subject? She should, I mean I told her. She knows I can’t multiply to save my life. Why is she staking so much on a single subject?

Shouldn’t she be taking a chance to find out that I’ve been bullied? That non one believes me when I report it? Shouldn’t take a chance to find out the teacher was taking advantage of half the class’ ignorance about the subject to berate us? I love my mother, I think. I’m not really sure how I feel. I know I used to. Of course that was back when I was eight.

I peer at my watch. Only a few minutes has passed. Why do I have to deal with her now? My plans for the weekend are ruined. There will be no watching TV until I pass out or hanging out with my Masque de Vampyre friends at Hot Topic.

“Don’t expect to go anywhere. All you have to do is get one fucking ‘A’ in math. What is wrong with you?” she growls. I roll my eyes. Like she cares. I know that she’s with another man. Someone to make my dad jealous. Like Dad would care. He stopped coming around years ago. I definitely hate him.

“I don’t give a shit,” I say. I’m used to her. Gotta be after living with her for nineteen years, my entire life. My mother doesn’t seem to care. (...)

Never Escaping

The hacking came from everywhere in the hospital where I laid in my gown. A curtain separated me from the room, but I could tell that the walls were white. The mint green curtains held up by bright silver metal billowed when someone walked by, giving me glimpses of other rusted cots.

Nurse Claire, a gray old lady whose hair never stayed in the gauze cap on the top of her head, came by to give me my meds. I just pretended to take them for her sake. I didn't feel the pain I was supposed to feel until later. The meds start to work quickly after it slips down my esophagus, so I didn't want to feel the escape yet. I hadn't written down my experience.

It all started when I was three. My mother had given me to the Guild to save me from a life of poverty that she had been forced to live in by her late husband. The Guild kept me on charge until my eleventh birthday, then I had to pay my way. Other children of my sex immediately threw themselves into the prostitution ring within the Guild, but I found myself in the practice fields with the boys.

They would not allow me to join them in the actual lessons, but the boys taught me during practice times when the instructors were elsewhere. I found my proficiencies in archery and grappling. I practiced hard everyday and soon I was good enough to join the boys on the hunting parties. Of course I had to dress like a man.

However, that was not what put me in the hospital. I was (...)

Dear Black,

Black, we sit in you when its too hot.
We wear you in the winter to catch heat.
Returning negativity to its source is your talent.
We need you to hide our sins.

Black, we fear you as children.
We fear your connotations.
You’ve been permanently placed in death,
And condemned by man.

Yet, you are used in decorations.
Black skulls on key-chains, black stools.
Our cars have you to show class.
We find you in hair, oh Black, beautiful.

But you are not innocent.
Nor shall you ever be.
Condemned by religion as sin,
And forced to contain our creatures.

We use you.
We abuse you.
And you’ll always be needed.

Sterile White Walls

Diseases, toxins, bacteria
White blood cells
Battle to save a life.
Surgery is a trauma of its own.
Recovery is not a team sport.

Hooked into an IV
A girl has shrapnel wounds
With internal bleeding.
Children should not be around
Explosives.

A hospital bustles
Doctors hurry
This one has to be rolled
To the O.R. now.
This one can wait.

No one appreciates what
A doctor does
Unless it saves
Your life.

Fallen Ice Cream

I remember the day well,
Falling ice cream put me under a spell.
I stared at it as I cried,
And the concrete became its bride.

It was chocolate in a chocolate cone.
I loved it like a dog courts a bone.
Uncoordinated and clumsy, I stood no chance,
Of eating all of it.
