PERFECTION

Quite
often we find most people asking a question – what to do with this
life? Some spend the whole or major part of their life in finding out an
appropriate and suitable answer. Some find an answer a little earlier
and then keep on finding out how to get what they want. Still others
depend and leave everything on destiny and wait for some wholesome
change or miracle to occur in their life. On the contrary, very few
people determine by themselves what to do, how to do and when to do things that they want to achieve. They obviously dream of something, but without being entangled in a dream world, they switch to inventive thinking
so as to turn their dreams into reality and having thought it clearly
they move on to realize and enact their thoughts and plans.

Those who are not capable of carrying out all these organized plans and
actions, or those who don’t intend to do the same (if they are at all
capable), simply ask another question – what’s the use of doing all this
stuff? Let it all go on around you. Actually such people always keep on
asking questions but have no answers, and can never withstand the
prosperity/betterment of others, although they claim to be the best of
humans.
Still then another aspect remains unanswered – even if we now what, how and when
to do, what would be the limit, how (...)

CIVILIZATION AND LONELINESS

For the last few days I was too much
preoccupied with my work, in fact obsessed would be a better word,
yesterday I took out some free time for myself and let my soul and mind
free to think and do anything that it likes. Suddenly a silly idea
struck my civilized mind – I asked my mom to give me a brass plate
(pitoler thālā in Bengali) and poured some milk and water on it. Then
plucked a pink rose and some Calencho flowers and some leaves of bamboo,
petunia and Calencho from plants in my garden and spread them on that
milk and toyed with them to make various designs, took snaps of those
designs in my mobile camera and uploaded the album in Facebook (if you
wish to see them just click my name ARKO CHAKRABORTY in the Facebook
search engine and view my profile, the album is shared with everyone).

The designs were nice, not because I created
them, but because they were always there, I just discovered them and
felt happy. I didn’t create anything, I just figured out what was
apparently absent but always present. Some might say I wasted my time, I
should have been far more practical and completed my work. But I felt
that I spent my time for something good, for something pleasant, it was
worth it. The happiness which it gave me is beyond explanation. It gave
me a new boost to fight harder, to strive further and (...)

SHADOWS AND LIGHTS

I am about to write what I am feeling right now, what I see, what I
hear, what I experience right now. I am sitting on a stool in a
south-facing room in a house where I stay, perhaps it can also be called
home. I can see the shadow of the grills of the window in front of
which I am sitting – alternate squares of bright sunlight and shadow
making a design on this very page of the diary that I am writing on.
Every time the nib of my pen moves to a sunlit square I see its shadow
and the shadow of my curled fingers. The mouth of the nib kisses its
shadow and I see words being formed on this page. As I move on to a dark
shadowed square I loose the shadows of the nib and my fingers. Are they
still there? It so, why can’t I see them? Can only a physicist explain
it through the dry scientific terms – umbra and penumbra? Or is it that I
can still see them but cant distinguish? Are we all shadows then,
distinguishable and indistinguishable at once? Does God see and wish to
see each one of us in light when we do something good; and when we do
something bad do we push ourselves in such shadowed squares where He
wishes to find us but we hide and keep ourselves away from Him?
Do these alternate squares of sunlight and shadow resemble the
alternate phases of happiness and sorrow in our Life? Is it in happiness
that we find the self, we get to believe that (...)

He Never Leaves Us

Even when all tears
Left my eyes,
I could never realize
Who kept on smiling for me.

Even when all prayers
Left my lips,
I could never realize
Who kept on praying for me.

Even when all faith
Left my soul,
I could never realize
Who kept on blessing me.

Howsoever far
May we go from Him,
He never leaves us.

Halves

When you find me sad
Lend me half a smile,
When I find you sad
I'll share all the tears that you had.

When you find me lonely
Spend half a moment with me,
When I find you lonely
I'll share all my life with you.

When I'll fall silent forever
Call me once by half my name,
I'll answer you.

If ever you fall silent
I'll call you by all the names
That I could never tell you -
Would you answer me then?

Being a Good Soul

When passion
Gives way to compassion,
We discover Love.

When sacred desires
Unite with love,
We pray.

When emotions
Spill over the pensive mind,
We weep.

When memories
Build a life out of moments
We realize
Who we are.

Each of these
Makes us good souls
And takes us
Closer to Him.
