Waiting 
for
the cold
in the ground
to retreat 
from the waxing
days,
Waiting 
for lonely strips 
of snow at
road's edge
to surrender 
to the insistent
sun,
Waiting 
for cranes and crows 
to
announce:
Spring is here.
