Dark was the Dream

It was ominous and still
As I began to embark
On an aimless venture
Into the immersing dark.

Wandering through the forest
Exhausted and alone
My broken body ached
Straight to the bone

I lay beneath a tree
Sleep grew swiftly near
And I drifted into slumber
Wind whispering in my ear

A silver screen appeared
Into the depths of my mind
My thoughts were a theater
A dream started to unwind

As the dream descended
A crystal lake came to sight
With a woman in the water
Surrounded in shimmering light

To beautiful for words
So it shall remain untold
Draped in a cloak of silver silk
With a pendant of white gold.

A melody escaped her lips
Such a sweet siren song
My heart urged me forward
And my foolish feet followed along.

As I drew closer
The scenery changed
The water grew murky
The trees deranged
She reached in her cloak
And removed from beneath
A deafly drawn dagger
Yanked from it’s sheath

She grazed my chest
And I uttered a scream
I quickly awoke
T’was merely a dream

I stumbled home
And flung open the door
To find a gold pendant
Sprawled out on my floor

Her song plays over
Nothing is as it seems
My sanity shatters
Was it merely a dream?
