A Note On Women's History Month

Just  to keep it real, I don't consider myself a feminist. As a matter of fact, I still consider myself a conservative in spite of my hatred towards legalism and hyper-traditionalism. But it's just that I am so marveled at the beauty that God has made in the entire creation. And what I admire the most in God's handiwork is the creation of the woman, which I believe has the beauty that no stars in the skies and nor any flowers in the fields can ever match.

Let's also be real in this: there are things that women are better at than men. First, women are naturally better at commitment in relationships. Moreover, as my favorite conservative comedian Brad Stine once said, when they say "Yes" to their men, it is a wholehearted decision. But before they give that answer, they first make men earn them!

Second, they are at times better teachers to their children than men. Remember our hero Jose Rizal? Did we ever realize that it took the love and wisdom of a mother (Teodora Alonzo) to shape a hero in him? If it weren't for mothers like Teodora Alonzo, we won't probably have heroes like Jose Rizal.

Lastly, a woman does one of the most difficult "job" in the world: being mother. What's difficult with it? First, a woman has to endure nine months of sacrifices, discomforts and excruciating pains just to give birth to a child. Then, she would have to suffer for some more years just to rear up that child. Finally, she always have to see to it she supports her husband well.

The "worst" thing about this "job" is that a woman doesn't get paid for it - and she doesn't expect anything in return, either! Instead, she does it with dignity and love. We also have to remember that this world will never have strong men without first having strong mothers to give birth to them. And if I might add, it was just a simple young woman that God used to bring our Savior to the world.

Bottom line? Let us appreciate the greatness and beauty of the work that God is doing through women. They also matter to their Creator.

"So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; MALE AND FEMALE he created them." - Genesis 1:27
